Save Jericho, Again!
Starting today, some of you may be seeing this add on several major broadcast stations, including: The Discovery Channel, The Sci-Fi Channel, and The History Channel.
Once again, the ever-faithful fans of Jericho are putting in another noble attempt to save their beloved show with an unprecedented 10-day television campaign aptly titled, "Save Jericho, Again."
As most of you know, Jericho debuted on CBS in September of 2006 to very strong ratings, but was put on hiatus two months later. The three month break killed the show's momentum and when it returned it February of 2007, the ratings took a hit. Shortly after the show's cliffhanger episode in May, the series was officially canceled.
Outraged, the fans of Jericho sent over 20 tons of peanuts to CBS' headquarters, which did not go unnoticed since the series was resurrected on June 6, 2007, with a 7-episode arc that would give Jericho closure. Despite their efforts, fans were disappointed once again when the series was officially canceled, for a second time, by CBS on March 21, 2008.
But Jericho's fans are more than determined to say the least. "Save Jericho, Again," is organized.
Launched on May 09, 2008, the campaign collected monetary donations in the amount of $6, 314.88 in only 23 days in order to create the 30-second television spot, which will be airing in 97% of Time-Warner's (Los Angeles) market share and will reach audiences in the 25-49 demographic. In total, the ad will air a total of 200 times in 10 days.
Previous efforts to resurrect the canceled series included taking a full one-page ad in Variety Magazine in April and erecting a humongous billboard in Downtown Los Angeles, which advertised that the show was "for sale" and needed a "new home."
It's getting noticed, too.
Brad Beyer, who played Stanley Richmond on the series, lent his voice to the television spot, which was recorded by Jericho's very own production sound mixer, Phil Palmer. In addition, Executive producers Jon Turteltaub and Carol Barbee have expressed their deepest thanks to the fans of Jericho for keeping up the fight.
Face it, the fans of Jericho have very powerful connections.
I wouldn't mind seeing this show come back at all. Whether you're a fan or not, Jericho was one of the best dramas on TV and though its serialization may have worked to its slight detriment, what show(s) on television aren't serialized to some degree?
As it stands now, the fate of Jericho is undetermined, but the executive producers still state that they're currently fielding offers to find the show a new home or continue the series through another incarnation, such as a theatrical television movie.
